Dr. S. K. Jain is the Founder and Chairman of Ground Water & Mineral Investigation Consultancy Centre (GWMICC) and is widely recognised as a pioneer in the field of groundwater investigation, geohydrology, and sustainable water management with over five decades of experience internationally.
His work has played an important role in advancing scientific approaches to groundwater exploration, rainwater harvesting, stormwater management, and integrated water and mineral resource planning, management, and practical execution.

Professional Background

Dr. Jain began his professional career in 1978 with the CGWB, Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India, where he served as Ground Water Expert (Class-I) after securing a high rank in the All-India UPSC examination for 8 years.
During his tenure with CGWB, Ministry of Water Resources, Government of India, he contributed to several groundwater investigation and resource management programmes.
In 1985, he established GWMICC to provide specialised consulting services in hydrogeology, hydrogeophysical investigations, groundwater and mineral resource development, and management.
Since then, the organisation has completed thousands of investigations and consultancy assignments for the public and private sectors.

National and International Recognition

Dr. Jain’s expertise in water management has been recognised at the highest levels.
In 2004, he was invited by the President of India, Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, to Rashtrapati Bhavan to discuss innovative strategies for improving groundwater conditions in India through rainwater harvesting and urban water management.
Over the years, he has received several recognitions and honours for his contribution to sustainable water management, including: Jal Mitra Award of the Government of Rajasthan Rajasthan Water Leadership Award by World Sustainability Organization, India Service Above Self Award for the field of Water Management, Rotary International, Evanston, USA Lifetime Achievement Award from Everything About Water (EAW), India

Continuing Contribution

Dr. Jain continues to guide research, training, and industry initiatives in groundwater management.
In 2025, he chaired the Groundwater Strategy Summit, organized by IVC and sponsored by GWMICC, held at RIC, Jaipur, which brought together leading scientists, policy experts, and practitioners to discuss groundwater security, sustainability, and future research directions.
